Can You Use AI-Generated Business Strengths in Sales? Check the Evidence First
You have given AI information about your business and asked it to identify your strengths. The result sounds presentable, but can you put it in your sales materials?
Before polishing the wording, review each claim. “Customers value this,” “we outperform competitors,” and “we can deliver this” need separate checks.
The following is a practical review process for AI-generated proposals. It is not evidence of any particular AI product's accuracy or of an effect on sales.
Break the sentence into claims
Consider this hypothetical wording: “Customers choose us for our technical expertise and flexible service.” This is an illustration, not a real company or client case.
The sentence contains three claims: an assessment of technical capability, the scope of flexibility, and customers' reasons for choosing the company. Review them separately:
- Technical capability: what can the business do, for which task and under what conditions?
- Flexibility: what can be changed, and what requests cannot be accommodated?
- Reasons for selection: who said this, when, and about which purchase?
If the AI output names a source, open it and check whether it supports the claim. If you supplied your company's own description, investigate separately whether customer feedback supports it.
Check the limits of the evidence
For each claim, record the source, the relevant customer or activity and time period, what the evidence supports, what remains unknown, and who will investigate it.
Treat feedback from one customer as feedback about that customer and engagement. Attach the conditions and period to delivery-time records. Hold back a comparison such as “faster than competitors” if you lack information about the alternatives.
If you need customer interviews, see questions and records for understanding why customers chose you. This article focuses on deciding whether to use the resulting claims in sales, rather than explaining the entire research process.
When evidence is missing, record a research question before asking for more persuasive wording.
Use, qualify, or hold
Three decisions can help move the review forward.
Use the claim. The evidence matches the scope of the wording, and the delivery team can keep the promise. Also check whether the underlying information may be disclosed.
Use it with conditions. Evidence exists, but the capability applies only to certain customers or circumstances. State the scope, prerequisites, and exceptions, and share them with salespeople.
Hold the claim. You cannot locate the source, verify the customer assessment, establish comparable conditions, or support the promise operationally. Record the missing evidence and assign someone to investigate.
Being usable does not make a claim the centerpiece of your sales message. Even a true claim may not matter to the customer's buying decision. Once you have substantiated it, examine whose problem it helps solve.
Some gaps cannot be fixed with wording
If “short lead times” is proposed as a strength but cannot be delivered at certain order volumes, the issue goes beyond wording. Management needs to decide which work to accept, what conditions to promise, and what capacity is required.
Conversely, if the direction and evidence are sound and only the writing is unclear, editing may be enough. Not every problem calls for a review of brand strategy.
The connection to brand strategy is deciding whom you serve, what you promise, and how you will continue delivering it. Treat the AI-generated proposal as material for that decision.
Start with one strength you want to put in a sales document. List its evidence, conditions, and delivery owner, then separate usable wording from unanswered questions. That is the intended output of this exercise. It does not guarantee a higher win rate.
